On Thursday, November 9, detectives apprehended a 21-year-old New Bedford man, Curtis Monteiro, and confiscated an illegal firearm in his possession according to the New Bedford Police Department.
Information about an individual stashing a firearm led Sgt. Jarrod Gracia of the department's Gang Unit to Monteiro. After being spotted traversing Chestnut St./Robeson St. intersection by Detectives Nathaniel Almeida and Samuel Algarin-Mojica, Monteiro was found to be carrying a loaded Taurus G2C 9mm handgun, containing 12 ammunition rounds and stripped of its serial number, without necessary licensing. Consequently, he was charged for unlawfully owning a large-capacity firearm and obliterating its serial number.
