
Early yesterday, a shooting incident in Cranston, Rhode Island, resulted in a 4-year-old boy being critically injured. His father has been detained in relation to the event, as reported by WCVB.
The incident took place in a second-floor apartment on Queen Street, and the child was quickly transported to Hasbro Children's Hospital according to WPRI.
In an interview, Cranston Police Department Col. Michael Winquist expressed the emotional impact of such incidents, not only on the affected families but also on the officers conducting the investigation. Winquist stated, "Our officers, they were some of the first ones inside the residence. Witnessing a child in this condition is a difficult situation." The identity of the family is yet to be disclosed. While certain residents of the apartment are known to the police, the weapon used in the shooting has not been retrieved as per WCVB.
The Cranston Police Department under the guidance of Col. Winquist continues its investigation into the incident. Attention to the critical condition of the child remains paramount. Winquist noted that it's necessary for avoiding speculations until a thorough investigation is conducted. He stated, "We aren't willing to speculate about the incident until we obtain a search warrant. Currently, we are in the process of procuring one," in an interview with WPRI.
