Recently, 30-year-old Amesbury resident Thomas Cross was sentenced to five years in prison for child pornography offenses. Cross and his partner, Desiree Daigle, were involved in sharing child pornography and planning to sexually assault a child according to the District of Massachusetts.
Following Daigle's sentencing to 17 years in 2022, Cross' incarceration is another instance of child exploitation coming to light. Cross was first arrested for these crimes in 2018 and spent time in federal custody until July 2019. He was apprehended again in June 2020 for violating release terms by distributing child pornography online.
The investigation leading to Cross' conviction involved the Amesbury Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the U.S. Attorney's Office, shedding light on the collaboration needed to combat child exploitation. The case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ-led nationwide initiative to fight child sexual abuse by coordinating federal, state, and local resources.
The crimes committed by Thomas Cross and Desiree Daigle highlight the urgent need to address child exploitation. To create meaningful change, we must commit to dismantling abusive systems and ensuring child protection. As stated in another Project Safe Childhood article, collective collaboration is indispensable in eradicating this widespread issue.
The case of Thomas Cross and Desiree Daigle starkly underlines the importance of our ceaseless fight against child exploitation.
