The Austin Police Department (APD) launched its 'DWI No Refusal Initiative' on November 16, aiming to decrease drunk driving during the Thanksgiving holiday. The initiative will go on until November 26, with officers patrolling highways and high-speed roadways from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. reported by KXAN.
In order, to enforce DWI laws and ensure public safety, officers involved in the initiative will seek blood search warrants for suspects who refuse to provide breath or blood specimens as mandated by law. This information was reported by FOX 7 Austin.
To coincide with the Thanksgiving holiday, the No Refusal Initiative kicks off due to increased traffic and the likelihood of drunk driving. APD previously launched similar initiatives with the aim of keeping roads safe and encouraging responsible behaviors.
