The Chicago Fire Department waged war against the flames in an extra-alarm fire that engulfed a vacant Edgewater building early Thursday morning. According to ABC7 Chicago, the blaze took hold of a 2-story structure located in the 5300 block of North Sheridan Road, challenging firefighters as they worked to extinguish the inferno.
Authorities have yet to report any injuries as the flames were contained, and no one was believed to have been inside the derelict building at the time of the fire. The intensity of the firefighting efforts prompted the Chicago Transit Authority to reroute its #151 and #147 buses, as per ABC7 Chicago's report. Officials quickly escalated their response to a 2-11 alarm, marshaling additional resources and personnel to battle the stubborn blaze.
On the digital front, CFD Media's Twitter account provided real-time updates on the emergency response. "Still & Box Alarm at 5356 N Sheridan. 2 1/2 story 50×75 vacant building, defensive operations.
