The Boston Police Department's Youth Violence Strike Force slapped the cuffs on Roxbury resident Dimitri Harris, 31, on Wednesday morning after a shooting that shook the local community. Harris, facing multiple charges, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, was nabbed near Fenelon Street, according to authorities.
The Boston Police Department claims that their latest arrestee, 31-year-old Dimitri Harris, caught in the 15 Fenelon Street area, was wanted on serious warrants stemming from a violent August encounter. These outstanding warrants pertained to a host of allegations: assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, unlawful firearm possession, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, and vandalism of property as detailed on the Boston Police Department's website.
The streets of Roxbury recall the night of August 13, when shots rang out near Hollander and Crawford streets. At approximately 9:27 p.m., B-2 District officers rushed to the scene, only to find a victim, whose identity was concealed, wounded by a bullet. The injured was promptly rushed to a nearby hospital, surviving a brush with death under the label of non-life-threatening injuries.
In line with the police narrative, Harris is expected to face the music and hear the charges read against him in the Roxbury District Court. The legal proceedings will put a face to the name as communities haunted by the sound of gunfire look for closure in the wake of these violent disruptions to their peace. It remains to be seen how Harris will plead and whether justice will quell the unrest simmering in the hearts of Roxburians who, on a summer night, heard the echo of a gunshot split their world in two.
