Chaos unfolded on the streets of downtown Boston when Jasmine Velasquez, a 26-year-old woman, was arrested on charges of animal cruelty Tuesday night. Cops on the beat were alerted to the plight of a distressed dog by the sound of its cries and a helpful tipster pointing them to the grim scene, a stone's throw away from the city's famed Boston Common according to a news release.
Moments later, at about 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Valasquez was witnessed by Boston officers assigning cruelty in a manner befitting a vile act, administering kicks to the defenseless animal amidst the hazards of shattered glass and an unidentified liquid, evidence of the turmoil that scattered around 131 Tremont Street. In what pilgrims of the common would recount as a display of savagery, the suspect did not only smack the canine with her foot but also with a tool of glass, according to witness accounts gathered on the scene.
It wasn't enough that a suspect struck the dog multiple times, as multiple bystanders testified to officers on the scene; Velasquez also faced charges for assault and battery on a police officer during the ensuing arrest. "Officers were able to quickly separate the suspect from the dog and move the dog to a safe location as there was broken glass and unknown liquid on the ground," detailed the statement from the Boston Police Department.
Velasquez is now awaiting her arraignment in Boston Municipal Court. The dog was put into the safe embrace of Animal Control. The four-legged victim was put under the protection of Animal Control, who responded to the scene to take custody of the dog.
