In downtown Boston, officers from the A-1 (Downtown) Drug Control Unit thwarted a potentially deadly attack when they arrested a man armed with an axe and a machete as he threatened a group of terrified teens. The shocking incident occurred on Monday, November 27, when officers were just 20 feet away, conducting a drug investigation near Temple Place.
According to reports by the Boston Police Department, the officers heard the commotion and, upon looking, witnessed 51-year-old Israel Silva of Roxbury, axe and machete in hand, threatening the teens.
The Roxbury man stopped to reach into his pocket, pulling out a small axe, and continued his aggressive advance with one weapon in each hand. No physical injuries have been reported.
Following the arrest, the search of the suspect revealed an assortment of illicit substances, including 30 packets of K-2 synthetic marijuana, 16 Suboxone strips, and a digital scale. Silva now faces serious charges, including two counts each of assault and possession of a dangerous weapon, as well as drug distribution and disorderly conduct charges. He is slated to be arraigned in the Boston Municipal Court.
