The Boston Office of Youth Employment and Opportunity (YEO) has introduced a fresh leadership team, aiming to enhance the future of Boston's young workforce, according to a recent announcement from the Worker Empowerment Cabinet. The new team includes Allison Vernerey as the Executive Director, Adeola Ebekozien as the Deputy Director, and Li Liang as the Strategic Consultant, who are committed to expanding and developing employment opportunities for the city's young population.
The City of Boston invested $35 million in youth employment programs this year, in collaboration with city-wide partners. Their efforts have led to almost 12,000 young Bostonians finding employment via various initiatives, accounting for over 75% of the total employment for the city's youth.
The new leadership appointees bring a diverse skill set to the YEO, including Allison Vernerey's rich experience and strong academic background. She holds an MBA from Boston University's Questrom School of Business, a BS in Economics with High Honors from Duke University, and has built a strong portfolio in product management. Her previous roles at Decathlon, Home Depot, and Zmags, combined with her community engagement efforts, underscore her comprehensive leadership approach that will hugely benefit the YEO and Boston's youth.
Drawing from her broad experience in business and management, Vernerey is eager to create a lasting, positive impact on the lives of Boston's youth. She plans to focus on technology, operations, and particularly on empowering the YEO team to unlock their full potential.
The formation of this trio validates Boston's steadfast commitment to its youth. Deputy Chief of Worker Empowerment, Rashad Cope, expressed the significance of this juncture in the Boston.gov article. He stated the combined expertise of Vernerey, Ebekozien, and Liang will "expand and connect Boston's young people to job opportunities across the neighborhoods." With a successful track record of nearly 30 years, YEO's new leadership affirms the city's ongoing commitment to fostering opportunities and prosperity for its future generations.
