Nineteen-year-old Ariel Cruz has been charged with murder following his confession to being involved in his girlfriend's death.
A 21-year-old victim, whose identity remains unconfirmed as of the time of writing, didn't show up to school on Tuesday morning, sending her family into a panicked search. With her black Honda Civic discovered on Indigo Street, family members were confirmed after forced entry into the vehicle led to the discovery of her lifeless body, featuring telltale signs of a violent encounter, in the trunk.
The suspect was identified as Ariel Cruz, who had been among the family and friends searching for the missing woman. Cruz, now facing charges in the 184th State District Court, cut a solemn figure in his booking photo provided by Houston Police. The victim's last known location was traced back to the 5400 block of Indigo Street, close to where her vehicle and ultimately her body were found, as per the police report.
Detectives R. Waterwall and K. Hale of HPD's Homicide Division pieced together the series of events leading to Cruz's arrest. After an intensive interview by homicide detectives, Cruz confessed to his role in his girlfriend's tragic demise. The Houston Fire Department paramedics were summoned to the scene where they pronounced the victim deceased from evident trauma to her face.
