On November 2, Ahsan Arty, a Cambridge, Massachusetts resident, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for a host of crimes including drug distribution and firearm possession, as reported by the U.S. Department of Justice. The charges leveled against Arty, who was also known by his alias "Hass," included conspiracy to distribute controlled substances and possession of firearms in conjunction with drug offenses.
In a review of his criminal history, Arty had been implicated in numerous illicit activities. In February 2021, he was involved in a crack cocaine transaction with an undercover law enforcement officer, as disclosed by the Department of Justice. His illegal activities continued unabated until his arrest in April 2022.
During a music tour held in California in August 2021, Arty was reported to have stolen approximately four kilograms of cocaine. He distributed this contraband upon his return to Massachusetts. Later, in December 2021, Arty and another individual attempted to rob a residence in Lawrence, Massachusetts, possessing a handgun and having intent to steal drugs and valuable items. However, their quest ended empty-handed.
Arty, accompanied by two additional accomplices, burglarized an Everett property in February 2022, intending to find drugs. This attempt resulted in meager spoil in the form of car keys and high-end clothing. Later that month, another break-in occurred at the same location, involving exchanged gunfire and a fray with the police. Arty then managed to flee the scene.
Arty's arrest took place outside a Boston nightclub in April 2022, where he was trapped while attempting to flee law enforcement in his vehicle. Authorities had earlier been tipped about his possession of firearms, based on a report from the Department of Justice. A search of his vehicle yielded a 9mm firearm with a selector switch, enabling it to fire automatically. This discovery came as Arty was already under trial for separate firearm offenses dating back to 2019.
The seriousness of this case is increased by Arty's possession of firearms, handling of stolen drugs, and participation in robberies, all while he was on pretrial release.
