Cambridge Police Department (CPD) has begun its 17th "Secret Santa for Seniors" gift drive. This annual initiative seeks to provide support to senior citizens who may lack family ties or firm social networks during the holiday season, according to the City of Cambridge Police.
CPD Commissioner Christine Elow notes an increasing number of eligible seniors participating in the program each year. The assistance provided by local individuals and businesses is crucial to the success of the program, donating unwrapped gifts as part of this community initiative.
The Secret Santa for Seniors drive works in conjunction with the City of Cambridge official offices, Cambridge Housing Authority, CambridgeSide, Reservoir Church, the Perettie Family MIT, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and Pro EMS.
While the initiative continues to encourage physical donations dropped off at the Robert W. Healy Public Safety Facility, it has adopted a modern approach to accepting contributions. In partnership with Cambridge Local First and several Cambridge business associations, an Amazon "Wish List" has been created to streamline online donations.
The drive particularly welcomes food (non-perishable), gift cards, winter clothing, bath products, health items, local sports team merchandise, and puzzle books. According to the Cambridge Police Department, donations will be accepted through December 15.
Commissioner Elow commends the residents, businesses, partners, and CPD employees for their continued support, recognizing their acts of kindness towards the elderly.
