A woman and her infant confronted danger in the parking lot of Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, Illinois on a Thursday afternoon. 28-year-old Chicago man, Jaquan Wilkins, is alleged to have robbed her at gunpoint for her purse, triggering a subsequent pursuit across the suburbs according to ABC7 Chicago.
Wilkins was out on bond for attempted murder and aggravated battery charges in Will Count. He was spotted in a gray Mazda 6 at Oak Brook Mall as per a report by FOX 32 Chicago. Upon the arrival of the Oak Brook police, Wilkins reportedly rammed a police vehicle before initiating a high-speed chase through the city.
During the chase, police claim Wilkins discarded a loaded Glock 43, 9mm gun from his car window, which the officers later recovered. Wilkins fled causing damage to two vehicles, but his escape was put to an end when officers spiked his car’s tires.
The DuPage County State's Attorney's Office has charged Wilkins with illegal firearm possession, property damage, aggravated fleeing, eluding, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon as per ABC7 Chicago reports.
Currently, Jaquan Wilkins is in custody with an arranged court hearing on December 4 and will remain in custody until his next court appearance.
