Chicago's government announced continued efforts to aid asylum seekers and unhoused individuals as winter temperatures begin to drop. Tangible steps are being taken to ensure the availability of essential resources and aid for those affected by the weather conditions, according to the press release.
The city has partnered with organizations and volunteers to collect essential items such as warm clothing and blankets for distribution. Sixteen buses provided by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) act as warming stations from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m., with plans underway to increase this number.
Chicago is working alongside faith-based leaders to establish more temporary shelter and provide medical attention where needed. In response, extensive collaborations are being developed for the steady inflow of fresh arrivals from diverse locations, as reported by the press release.
Those interested in contributing can donate essential items through a website set up by the city at https://chi.gov/NewArrivals.
