
A Chicago Police officer was injured in a shooting incident in the South Shore area this morning. The incident occurred near East 73rd Street and South Dante Avenue when officers tried to make an investigatory stop, the suspect, described only as a male, fled the scene and fired his weapon in the officers' direction. The officers returned fire and it is reported that both parties went to the hospital with injuries, according to a Chicago Tribune.
Chicago Fire Department (CFD) was able to confirm that the officer was at the hospital in stable, non-life-threatening condition via CFD Media on Twitter.
The suspect was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center in an "extremely critical" state, according to another Chicago Tribune article, It is reported that he died after reaching the hospital. The investigation is still ongoing.
