In response to the recent surge of motor vehicle thefts in Chicago's 3rd District (Grand Crossing), citizens are being reminded to stay on alert and secure their properties. The Chicago Police Department's latest Community Alert has reported several incidents concentrated within specific geographic areas in October.
These incidents have occurred indiscriminately across various times of the day, from early morning to late at night. The victims find their vehicle stolen or badly damaged with the steering columns tampered with.
Preventive measures urged by the Chicago Police include not leaving keys in vehicles, swiftly reporting suspicious activities, and ensuring that vehicle doors and windows are secured. The Community Alert underscores the role of anti-theft steering wheel locks for Kia and Hyundai owners, readily available at local CAPS offices, and the use of traceable markings for catalytic converters at police districts.
Aside from these precautions, residents are being encouraged to employ modern devices, like GPS tracking. A reward plan allows those who register their devices with the City to be reimbursed for the spent costs.
