Yesterday, around 10:34 p.m., a fire broke out in a residential building in Southbridge at 87 Edwards Street. This incident escalated to a multiple-alarm fire, as reported by the Southbridge Fire Department on their Facebook page. One child was injured, but the other residents managed to evacuate.
The fire was successfully controlled by 12:30 a.m., after a cooperative effort from firefighters in surrounding communities. The building is now deemed uninhabitable, and the damages are roughly estimated at $500,000 according to the same source.
Totaling twelve, the occupants' lives were massively disrupted by the fire. While all managed to escape on their own, tragically a child was injured and taken to Harrington Hospital for evaluation as per NBC Boston. Investigations regarding the cause of the fire have begun and are being carried out by the State Fire Marshall's office and the Southbridge Fire Department.
