Last Thursday, a Dallas Police officer suffered injuries in a shooting encounter with murder suspect Jordan Owens, 20, in the 9900 block of Adleta Boulevard. The officer had been executing a capital murder warrant related to a homicide that took place on October 16 on Forest Lane according to the Dallas Police Department.
The Dallas Police officer was a member of the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force and was accompanied by officers from the Dallas County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Marshal's Service, and the Dallas Police Project Safe Neighborhood team. As described by Police Chief Eddie Garcia at a recent press conference, Owens opened fire on the officers as they tried serving the warrant at his apartment as reported by NBC DFW.
During the shooting exchange, task force member Senior Corporal Edgar Morales received gunshot injuries to his leg. He was promptly treated, and he was discharged from the hospital. His condition is reported to be stable per NBC DFW.
Defying surrender orders, Owens retreated into his apartment and began throwing items from the window. The officers retaliated when they saw the suspect wielding a handgun. The standoff was resolved when Dallas Police 911 received information regarding additional individuals inside the apartment and that Owens was injured. Task force members efficiently evacuated the occupants and apprehended Owens.
After preliminary medical aid, Owens was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition. The handgun found at the scene, equipped with a full-auto switch and extended magazine, is believed to be Owens's. Apart from the capital murder warrant, Owens now also faces three charges of aggravated assault on a public servant. Investigations by the Special Investigations Unit, the Dallas County District Attorney's Office, and the Office of Community Police Oversight are underway per the Dallas Police Department.
