The City of Denton's Parks and Recreation Department has earned national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) and the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), according to an announcement by the City of Denton website. This joins other city departments, including the Denton Police Department, Denton Public Library, and Denton Fire Department, that have previously met national accreditation standards.
The recognition testifies to Denton's commitment in providing quality experiences and diverse programming for its residents. The CAPRA accreditation is exclusively designed for park and recreation agencies.
It now counts the City of Denton among the select group acknowledged for their impressive operation, management, and community service.
An accreditation implies going through a detailed process which includes a formal application, self-assessments, a site visit by trained volunteers, and ultimately, a written report with a hearing to grant the accreditation. The goal is to meet 154 standards in ten core areas, ranging from agency authority, role and responsibility up to assessment and research.
