A 65-year-old man, riding his electric tricycle, was fatally injured on Monday, October 30, around 5:00 p.m., after a collision with a 2021 Mercedes-Benz SUV. The accident occurred on Camino Del Norte near World Trade Drive in Poway.
Deputies from the Poway Sheriff's Station promptly arrived at the scene and began looking into the incident.
Early findings from the investigation suggest that the victim while riding westbound on Camino Del Norte, was hit by the SUV, driven by a 47-year-old woman. Despite immediate hospitalization, the man passed away due to his injuries.
Authorities have preliminarily ruled out alcohol as having been a factor in the crash.
To further probe the incident, the Sheriff's Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team has joined the investigation. Investigator Donald Westfall, a STAR Team member, has politely requested any helpful information that anyone might have about the incident.
