On December 1 and 2, Balboa Park will transform into a winter wonderland with twinkling lights, holiday tunes, and the scent of roasted chestnuts—basically, a holiday feast for your senses.
Mayor Todd Gloria is making the park merry and bright with a dazzling tree lighting ceremony on the Spreckels Organ Pavilion Stage, spreading the joy of the season. The Mayor, in a statement from the City of San Diego's official site, called December Nights a cherished tradition that kicks off the holiday season.
The new December Nights Mobile Experience is like a gift for your phone. This mobile-friendly website helps you plan your visit, discover performances, find food spots, and get the inside scoop on all the must-dos, as explained by Natasha Collura, Executive Director of Special Events and Filming.
Get ready to dance because there are 1,600 performers on five stages and over 200 vendors offering everything from trinkets to treats—all free in the evening. And for those worrying about the parking nightmare before Christmas, San Diego Community Power has your back with shuttles from various downtown locations and secure bike storage at their bike valet.
Families can enjoy a special zone with activities like storytimes, skateboarding demos, a Santa photo op, and a heartwarming sock donation drive for the unsheltered, a collaboration between the City and SDG&E. Don't forget to glide over to the "Winter Parad-ice," a synthetic ice rink sponsored by San Diego Community Power.
