Chicago's culinary scene celebrated as the Michelin Guide 2023 Bib Gourmand recipients were unveiled. Five eateries from the Windy City marked their presence on the prestigious list. The awarded restaurants include Boonie's, Cellar Door Provisions, Pompette, Union, and Yao Yao.
The Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand is a recognition given to restaurants that offer quality three-course meals for an affordable price. This is distinct from Michelin Star establishments that cater to high-end dining experiences. A Bib Gourmand restaurant, as reported by NBC Chicago, aims to provide a two-course meal, dessert or a glass of wine for $40 or under.
Being home to 47 Bib Gourmand restaurants has Chicago celebrated as a food paradise. Compared to the Windy City, the Michelin Guide added 11 new recipients in New York and just two in Washington, D.C. this year, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The award-winning Boonie's, based in Lincoln Square, began its journey as a food stall and became well-known for its flavorful rice dishes and crispy pork belly hash. In contrast, Cellar Door Provisions, announced by NBC Chicago, believes in serving simple yet delicious Mediterranean cuisine.
Following the success of its sister, Lardon, Union in Logan Square now presents creative American cuisine that is comforting. Pompette from Bucktown/Wicker Park is known for its wide variety of dishes that turn on rotation. Yao Yao offers Chinese cuisine in Chinatown, with its popular pickled fish dish, according to NBC Chicago.
The awarded restaurants eagerly shared their joyous moments on social media, acknowledging the payoff of hard efforts. Pompette thanked its patrons while Union expressed the excitement of being featured along with fellow Chicago peers. This was reported by NBC Chicago.
As NBC Chicago revealed, the complete list of Bib Gourmand recipients will be out next week. Chicago's diverse culinary environment continues to grow, offering locals and tourists alike an array of exquisite culinary experiences.
