
Earlier today, a fuel tanker crashed and tipped over on Route 3 northbound in Billerica, Massachusetts. It was hit by a 2022 GMC Sierra pickup and a 2022 Tesla Model Y SUV, causing a significant fuel leak and necessitating road closures according to Boston Herald.
The NBC Boston reported, the collision occurred around 10 a.m. Massachusetts State Police and firefighters quickly arrived to manage the scene where fuel leaked from the top of the overturned tanker.
Hazmat teams and environmental crews rushed to contain the spill. All lanes were shut down in both directions, and traffic was redirected as per Boston Herald. Dashcam footage from 7NEWS showed the pickup truck trying to switch lanes, colliding with the SUV, and crashing into the fuel tanker, which then flipped over and slid across the highway.
The drivers of the two vehicles incurred minor injuries, as reported by the Massachusetts State Police on 7NEWS. Because of pavement damage caused by the accident, lane closures could last into the next day as per NBC Boston. Additionally, ramps from I-495 to Route 2 south were also shut down as mentioned by Boston Herald.
