Greenfield, Massachusetts, recently concluded a case against 20-year-old Ethan Hatch, who'd been charged with the rape and strangulation of a young woman in September 2022. The jury, last Friday, found Hatch guilty of three counts of rape and one of strangulation, however, he was acquitted on two additional counts of rape and an assault and battery charge as reported by WWLP.
The allegations surfaced following a party on September 17, 2022. Hatch was accused to have met the victim there, and it was inferred that the incident occurred at his residence early the following morning according to The Recorder. The survivor's courage in testifying was acknowledged by Northwestern Assistant District Attorney Andrew C. Covington during the trial, which saw evidence presented from eleven witnesses, including both the defendant and survivor. Covington stated, "The survivor showed tremendous courage coming forward and testifying in court."
The investigation into Hatch's case was handled by the State Police Detective Unit attached to the Northwestern District Attorney's Office alongside the Northfield Police Department as referenced in The Recorder. Ethan Hatch's sentencing will be on November 27.
