Yesterday, a 10-year-old boy suffered severe injuries in Chicago's Burnside neighborhood when gunmen opened fire on his family home, located on the 1100 block of East 91st Street. The Chicago Tribune reported that this incident occurred a little past 7:30 p.m.
Police suggest that three unknown attackers were to have fired the shots, with one hitting the child in the chest. Despite the prompt arrival of an ambulance dispatched by the Chicago Fire Department, the boy had already been taken to the Comer Children's Hospital by the police, according to ABC7 Chicago.
The community struggles to understand the motives behind such an unprovoked attack. As per community activist Andrew Holmes, other children were present in the home during the shooting, but only the 10-year-old was hit. The shooters remain unidentified and at large. With the family waiting for updates outside the hospital, this incident starkly illustrates the issue of gun violence in the city.
Currently, no suspects are in custody, and the investigation by Area Two detectives continues.
