Friday marked the beginning of the holiday season at the historic Hays County Courthouse with their annual lighting ceremony. The community gathered to switch on the festive lights and join in the festivities, as reported by Fox 7 Austin. Judge Ruben Becerras expressed his gratitude toward the community for their support and unity at events like this. He also emphasized that the ceremony is just the start of a series of celebrations planned on the grounds.
Santa Claus was also present during the ceremony. He added merriment for the children present and listened to their wishes for the holiday season. Even the Grinch was spotted, but he seemed to consistently fail in stealing Christmas in such a festive place.
The Office of the Hays County Judge, in collaboration with other organizations, puts together the annual lighting ceremony. It brings in new activities and a series of performances to swiftly enjoy the community groups and schools as mentioned by the Hays Free Press. This year, attendees enjoyed music from the Hays High School Jazz Band, the Dripping Springs High School choir, the San Marcos High School Jazz Band, and other local performances.
Measures have been taken by Judge Ruben Becerras to include all areas of the county and promote peace and unity during this festive season, according to the Hays Free Press. The event featured array of celebrations, such as the Hanukkah ceremony with the lighting of the Menorah on December 7, and a Kwanzaa showcase with the decoration provided by the Dunbar Heritage Association installed on November 12. The judge held that there is no better way to celebrate the holiday season than inviting everyone to the Historic Courthouse Square to share special moments together.
