In November 15, the City of Huntington Beach is bringing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) into the limelight by inviting residents and staff to their National GIS Day event. The Information Services Department will host the commemoration in the Lower Level lobby area from 9 to 11:30 am as announced on the City of Huntington Beach's Facebook page.
A GIS is a system created for capturing, storing, validating, and showing data relating to places on Earth. The mixed usage of data in both the hardware and software of GIS applications helps individuals and organizations figure out and analyze spatial patterns and relationships by correlating unrelated data. This data-driven approach is then applied to constructing individual maps and web applications and generating useful information sources.
Each department in Huntington Beach is to use its robust GIS system to provide necessary information. For instance, to swiftly locate individuals and addresses for a decisive response in public safety-related instances, the Police and Fire Departments heavily rely on GIS data. In addition, GIS services are effective in other sectors like urban planning, infrastructure management, and environmental management.
