In a striking display of proactive vigilance, the Illinois State Police (ISP) has shown that proactive measures can help avert what could have been unspeakable tragedies. In an announcement lauded by Governor JB Pritzker, the ISP detailed a significant number of Clear and Present Danger reports that have prevented potential acts of violence over the past year as reported on Illinois State Police official website.
"We are united in our commitment to preventing gun-related tragedies in Illinois," Governor Pritzker stated, attesting to the efficacy of the ISP's efforts to keep firearms out of the hands of those who are a significant threat to themselves or others. Bolstered by ISP's diligent training of law enforcement agencies, school administrators, and medical professionals, the "Clear and Present Danger" reporting system is evidently making strides in violence reduction and public safety enhancements.
Through the enhanced system, which includes a web-based portal for faster review, ISP received over 10,000 reports from January to September this year, leading to more than 4,200 FOID revocations or application denials. Among the numerous interventions cited, one involved the swift action by the ISP after a mother's report led to the confiscation of a firearm from her son, who had threatened both his and his grandparents' lives.
Director Brendan F. Kelly of the Illinois State Police emphasized the life-saving potential of these collaborative actions, "We can stop potential tragedies when law enforcement, school administrators, and medical professionals file Clear and Present Danger reports."
