The much-anticipated Kelly's Roast Beef Dedham location officially opened its doors today, at 825 Providence Highway, a formerly closed car dealership that stood vacant for many years, via Boston 25 News.
Established in 1951 by Frank McCarthy and Ray Carey, originally as a hot dog stand, Kelly's Roast Beef became synonymous with roast beef sandwiches after inadvertently creating the modern version of the beloved sandwich as told by WCVB. This popular chain has since expanded to a number of locations, maintaining the quality of their roast beef sandwiches, and offering fresh seafood, and other regional favorites.
Neil Newcomb, the CEO, has overseen Kelly's Roast Beef's efforts to take its popular brand to more communities within New England and further afield. In a 2020 announcement, the company set an ambitious expansion plan with a target of 50 locations by 2025. As of now, the chain operates restaurants in the New England towns of Revere, Saugus, Medford, Danvers, and Salem, New Hampshire, with a new establishment in Florida.
During peak seasons, Kelly's Roast Beef's singles locations can sell more than 20,000 roast beef sandwiches every month, and millions, annually across all outlets.
Newcomb is thrilled about the opening of the Dedham shop, reemphasizing his goal of brand expansion. "We have a very loyal following within Massachusetts and we are very excited to expand our newest location in Dedham and continue to grow the brand," he stated to Boston 25 News, expressing also the intent of bringing Kelly's Roast Beef to more locations within the state, New England, and cultivating more lifelong brand fans.
The expansion strategy of the company includes seeking franchise partners beyond just opening more company-owned outlets. With a franchise fee of $40,000 and an initial investment of around $1.8-$3 million, Kelly's Roast Beef is scouting for business partners who share their commitment to uphold the chain's reputation.
