A grim tableau unfolded on the Lakeville Highway south of Stage Gulch Road yesterday afternoon, where a fatal multi-vehicle collision claimed a life and left several others injured, one critically. According to the California Highway Patrol's (CHP) initial investigation, the chaos erupted at approximately 2:41 p.m. when a southbound Chevrolet Colorado, for reasons still under investigation, strayed into oncoming traffic.
The Chevy, veering uncontrollably, collided head-on with a Toyota Tundra traveling northbound. The violent impact set off a deadly chain reaction, shoving the Toyota into the path of a Kia Sorento tailing the erratic Chevrolet. The Kia, caught in the maelstrom, tipped over in a dramatic overturn. Tragically, at the end of the dance of destruction, Kia's right front passenger was pronounced dead, a consequence of the sustained injuries.
Emergency respondents airlifted the Kia's driver, who sustained major injuries, while the driver of the Toyota was taken with moderate injuries. As of now, the names of the victims remain withheld, pending notification of the next of kin and a statement from the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office. The authorities determined that the Chevy's driver was under the influence during the tragic occurrence.
The Chevy driver was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail on multiple charges. The investigators, probing into the marrow of the incident, plead with potential witnesses: anyone with information that could be pertinent to the matter should contact the Santa Rosa CHP at (707) 588-1400 as per CHP's directive.
