Carlos Normand, a 33-year-old man from Louisiana, has admitted to the chilling act of 'grooming' a child he connected with online. Normand's facade involved posing as a child, specifically as a 9-year-old and an 11-year-old, while targeting an actual minor on social media according to MassLive.
Following a report received in October 2022, the Somerset Police Department delved into the case. Detective Donald Cormier unearthed Normand's disturbing online behavior, revealing that he was not only 'grooming' the targeted child by building an emotional connection, but he also had the gall to solicit content “of a sexual nature,” as stated in a report by NBC Boston. During the investigation, Cormier himself went undercover, posing as a 10-year-old boy, leading to Normand's eventual slip-up of sending sexually explicit images.
The depravity of Normand's intentions came to a judicial halt when he was sentenced to spend time behind bars. Having pleaded guilty to the charges laid against him, which included enticing a child under 16, distributing obscene matter to a minor, and accosting or annoying another person, the perpetrator was handed a sentence of two and a half years in the Bristol County House of Corrections, with 18 months to serve, plus a probationary period spanning three years.
Normand's arrest followed on December 1, 2022, after a warranted search of his Scott, Louisiana, home conducted by local state investigators.
