Arialka Moya, a 34-year-old Lowell woman, pled guilty to involvement in a fraud scheme that used stolen identities to purchase expensive vehicles, the U.S. Attorney's Office reports. Moya applied for a vehicle loan with stolen identification documents in early 2019.

According to the criminal complaint filed in September 2020, Moya attempted to buy a vehicle over $60,000 using a false driver's license and Social Security card. The true owner of these credentials had their identity stolen. The following year, in October, Moya and other participants were indicted with charges for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud itself, and falsely using a Social Security number.

Following her guilty plea, she now awaits sentencing on February 7, 2024. Moya could face a sentence of up to 20 years, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000, or double the monetary gain from the fraud. The false Social Security number charge has its own additional sentence which includes up to five more years in prison, another three years of supervised release, and an extra $250,000 fine.
