On November 12, a severe dog attack transpired on a walking trail in Lynn, resulting in grievous facial injuries sustained by a 68-year-old man. The assault was perpetrated by two loose pit bulls and is currently under investigation by Lynn Police. Law enforcement responded to the incident near 70 Cottage Street around 7 p.m., where they discovered the victim missing his left ear and with a portion of his nose torn off, as reported by the CBS Boston.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was immediately transported to a hospital for treatment. His roommate, Jeff Francois, communicated to CBS Boston that despite possibly needing a prosthetic ear, the victim is on the road to recovery. Francois provided a snapshot of the victim's character, describing him as thoughtful and friendly.
Upon further investigation by Lynn Police, suspicions arose that the pit bulls resided in a barber shop adjacent to the incident's location. Reports from the same CBS Boston article suggest that the shop's owner may also be the dogs' owner. Police confiscated surveillance footage from the premises and quarantined the dogs pending their investigation.
Public safety concerns surfaced due to the severity of the attack and its proximity to a local playground. An application for a search warrant quoted an officer as saying, "I have probable cause to believe that public safety is in jeopardy on account of the dangerousness of the dogs in question," as reported by CBS Boston.
Boston25 News continued to report that the investigation remains ongoing, with the dogs still in quarantine. While the owner of the dogs, yet to be named, has not been criminally charged in this case, the situation is significant as he is presently in jail for unrelated assault charges from October 2022.
