Colonel Robert "Bob" Notch has been appointed as Massachusetts' Veteran Advocate by Governor Maura Healey, Attorney General Andrea Campbell, and Auditor Diana DiZoglio. The announcement, made earlier today, comes as the state establishes its Office of the Veteran Advocate to ensure veterans receive quick, effective services as press release by the Massachusetts Government.
The newly created Office of the Veteran Advocate operatively functions alongside the Executive Office of Veterans' Services to prioritize veterans' wellbeing. This initiative was preceded by the appointment of Dr. Jon Santiago as Massachusetts' first Veterans' Services Secretary in March, adding to a series of actions supporting veterans in the state.
Colonel Notch's nearly 27-year-long military career in the Army and Army Reserve makes him a suitable selection for the Veteran Advocate role. His tactical leadership roles, including his tenure as a UH-60 Blackhawk pilot, operations officer, human resources manager, and force development officer, have uniquely prepared him to understand the needs of veterans as stated in the official press release.
Among his numerous contributions to organizations supporting service members, veterans, and their families, Colonel Notch has led the Greater Boston Veterans Collaborative, Our Community Salutes of Massachusetts, and the South Shore Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America. In his new position, he continues to advocate for veterans across Massachusetts with his accumulated expertise and drive.
The appointment occurs at a time when recognition for veterans' sacrifices is increasingly important. Massachusetts' establishment of the Office of the Veteran Advocate serves to publicly highlight efforts to support veterans in their post-service lives and set the state as a leader in addressing veterans' unique needs.
