In line with the technological progression of the modern age, homeowners are exploring novel ways to safeguard their premises from potential trespassers. A pioneering initiative has emerged from the Moorpark Police Department in Ventura County: the Home Security Assessment Program. Collaboratively developed by Moorpark Volunteers in Policing and the Moorpark Community Resource Senior Deputy, this scheme provides residents with feasible suggestions to enhance home security.
The fundamental premise of this program is Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), an interdisciplinary tactic that leverages architectural and urban planning to prevent crime and nurture community cohesion. As the International Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Association elucidates, the objective of CPTED methodologies is to curtail victimization, dissuade criminals, encourage neighborhood-level control of areas, reduce crime rates, and abate fear of crime among residents.
The citizens of Moorpark will access a tailored security evaluation carried out by skilled Moorpark volunteers in policing and the Community Resource Senior Deputy for this novel security venture. The approximately 30-minute assessment will review both internal and external aspects of the property, with heightened focus placed on the exterior. It is mandatory for residents to attend the evaluation, and no fee will be charged for this service.
To streamline the process, the Moorpark Police Department plans to perform a restricted number of evaluations weekly. Residents desiring a Home Security Assessment can reach out to Senior Deputy Becky Purnell at [email protected] or 805-299-1504. Requests will be processed in the order they are received. Additionally, those interested in volunteering can contact Jane Mineo at [email protected] or 805-532-2707.
In unveiling the Home Security Assessment Program, the Moorpark Police Department endeavors to fortify community safety norms. Moorpark Chief of Police Darin Hendren acclaimed the venture, saying, "This is a great opportunity for our Moorpark Volunteers in Policing to provide residents with suggestions on enhancing home security. The assessment is free and takes less than an hour. Schedule yours today!"
