In a shocking assault that rocked a quiet Naperville neighborhood, two men stand accused of cold-bloodedly beating a man until his face fractured and then, with impunity, breaking and entering an apartment. 22-year-old Daggio Castillo and 21-year-old Jeremy Gundlach, both from Naperville, were denied bail after the alleged brutal encounter and subsequent home invasion.

Citing a news release from the Naperville Police Department and the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, the duo is charged with one count of home invasion, a Class X felony, and one count of aggravating battery, a Class 3 felony. Having reportedly traveled from Maywood, Castillo, and Gundlach are alleged to have hunted down an individual they previously had words with the dead of the night on November 23, resulting in the vicious altercation outside an apartment complex on West Jefferson Avenue, as stated in Naperville.

"The type of senseless, violent attack that sent an innocent man to the hospital with serious facial injuries, as alleged in this case, has no place in civilized society and will not be tolerated in DuPage County," State’s Attorney Robert Berlin powerfully decried. "The victim in this case has a long road to recovery ahead of him, and I wish him well as he recovers both physically and emotionally," he continued, praising the swift actions of the police in nabbing the alleged attackers at the scene.

Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres echoed Berlin's sentiments, condemning the violence and lauding the collaborative detective work that led to the suspects' arrests. "Violent acts like this have no place in our city, or any city for that matter," said Chief Arres. "Working together to catch these suspects and hold them accountable," praised the various units within his department. Looking ahead, Castillo and Gundlach face Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh for their arraignment on December 18, 2023.
