Intero chefs Krystal Craig and Ian Thurwachter are set to open a new Italian café, Poeta, in East Austin on November 24, promising all-day dining from breakfast to dinner. The establishment, as reported by Community Impact News, will be housed in The Frances Modern Inn, formerly Uncle Nicky's.
Poeta's focus is on classic Italian hospitality and romance-infusing innovative twists to traditional Italian dishes, CultureMap Austin reports.
Breakfast at Poeta will feature plates like eggs benedict paired with gnocco fritto, prosciutto, and bearnaise, and a 'wafflegato' combining maple gelato and espresso. For lunch, diners can enjoy a lighter fare, like a bibb salad with prosciutto, pea shoots, and prosecco vinaigrette. Dinner options will include dishes like gnocchi with braised lamb and tomato butter, or risotto with bone marrow, grilled greens, and salsa verde. A range of desserts and vegan options will also be served.
More than simply serving food, Poeta aims to provide a warm, inviting ambiance to enhance the dining experience. The interior, designed by Kim Lewis Designs, can accommodate up to 100 guests both inside and out. Plans also exist to host ticketed events, musical performances, and a regular "flight night" featuring wine, amari, or spirit tastings, as detailed by a CultureMap Austin article.
