On Wednesday, Franklin Alcantara-Lorenzo, a 36-year-old Dominican Republic citizen and Newton resident, was sentenced in a Boston federal court for unlawfully reentering the United States following deportation. His sentence includes one year and one day in prison and three years of supervised release, as per the U.S. Department of Justice.
In July 2021, Alcantara-Lorenzo was deported after serving a 21-month federal sentence for "conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl." Despite his deportation, Alcantara-Lorenzo unlawfully returned to the U.S. and was detained by immigration officials in Chestnut Hill in April 2023.
