For 34 years, the turkey's been roasting, the gravy simmering, and the pumpkin pies sitting pretty at Norma's Cafe in Oak Cliff, where Thanksgiving is more than just a feast—it's a promise to the community. This year, as New Yorkers marveled at the parade, Texans lined up for a different tradition. Before the doors swung open at 11 in the morning, folks were queued up at the iconic joint known for dishing out helpings of holiday spirit.

One North Texan, Bianca Castro, has made this a six-year ritual, saying, "Norma’s Café is a blessing. It’s been a blessing they say for thirty years". Even with the long line, she remarked, “It’s long, but it goes fast. Everything goes fast." With hearts and bellies full, over 2,500 people were expected to be served through the to-go line out back and inside the bustling dining room according to NBC DFW.

It wasn't just the foot traffic that kept Norma's buzzing—four-legged friends joined in the feasting. Johnny Poyser, his wife, and their three dogs shared the holiday spirit. Speaking highly of the cafe, Poyser said, "They’re giving back to our community. Not just them wanting to make something from our community. They’re giving back to our community," as one of his furry companions clambered up his shoulder per NBC DFW.

However, Norma's season of giving expands beyond the Thanksgiving table. Kurt Metzger, VP of operations for Norma's Cafe, detailed the establishment's broader efforts, saying, "We opened our doors and give back where we can, in addition to that, also with our guests that purchase meals, we gave back to the North Texas Food Bank and we're looking at 1,600 to 2,000 meals we'll be able to give back to the North Texas Food Bank, it's just a fabric of our business model and that we're proud to do it every year," he said. As the economy grapples with inflation, the staff at Norma's sees their mission as more crucial than ever as per CBS News.

The 'Feeding the Homeless' event, an annual staple, is expecting to serve over 6,000 meals this week, an impressive feat as the chill of November reminds us of those without a hearth to call their own. On Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at its original location on W. Davis Street, Norma's Cafe welcomed everyone in need of a warm meal and some Texas hospitality.
