The Petaluma Police Department cracked down on impaired driving over the Thanksgiving holiday, nabbing a total of 11 DUI arrests throughout the festive weekend. According to a Facebook post by the department, officers were out in force with a mission to swiftly locate and duly identify those who dared to slip behind the wheel under the influence.
The operation kicked off on Wednesday, when the department strategically deployed six officers tasked with conducting a DUI saturation patrol and an additional six to keep an eagle eye on the downtown crowds, typically swollen on the eve of Thanksgiving. These officers were determined to enforce the law around the clock, from 4:00 PM to 4:00 AM, resulting in 72 traffic stops, six DUI arrests, and the issuance of 25 infractions for other citations.
The names of the individuals handcuffed and hauled in for DUI-related offenses read like a list of admonished partygoers: 45-year-old Jorge Ramirez, Valentino Salazar, age 29, Michael Balazki, 54, James Falduto, 24, Jared Humphreys, 22, and Carson Caveney, 26. As the weekend wore on, the DUI dragnet continued to sweep through Petaluma's streets, leading to several more arrests, including Brian Amador-Ortiz, 24, on Thursday; Jack Reed, 31, on Friday; followed by Joshua Antimo, 30, Portilio Armas Masariegos, 18, and Wiliam Vasquez-Rodriguez, 31, by the end of Saturday.
The message from the Petaluma Police Department remains clear and unequivocal: that the safety of the community stands as their unflagging commitment. And they pledge to keep up their relentless push to track down and prosecute those who irresponsibly choose to drive under the influence. Citizens too are called upon to contribute to this endeavor—if a suspected DUI driver crosses one's path, the responsibility to promptly call 911 is emphatically stressed.
The funds supporting the DUI Saturation Patrol originate from a California Office of Traffic Safety grant via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This financial backing specifically equipped six officers to patrol for impaired drivers during a period when roads are at high risk of such perils. The department expressed gratitude to the @ots_ca partners for their support in the mission to ensure a safer Petaluma.
