On Thanksgiving, a routine San Rafael probation check turned into a violent altercation when local police encountered a man with a history of violent crimes reaching suspiciously for his waistband. According to the San Rafael Police Department on X, officers managed to handcuff the suspect before any harm could be done, only to discover a concealed handgun in his pant leg, an unloaded weapon bereft of identifying marks.

Last night, just before 9:30 PM, officers observed a person known to law enforcement to be on Marin County probation, a convicted felon, and having priors for committing numerous violent crimes.… pic.twitter.com/l8aA4Ik3hh
Not long after the handcuffs clicked shut, restraining a convicted felon known for violence, the suspect lashed out, exhibiting behavior all too familiar to those who wear the badge. In the scuffle that ensued, an officer sustained a minor injury when the suspect kicked him in the face. Despite the setback, officers subdued the unruly man and placed him into the police vehicle, proceeding more cautiously now with the knowledge that their suspect was not only noncompliant but also armed.
The discovery of the handgun possibly linked the suspect to a recent armed robbery in downtown San Rafael, a connection that has heightened the gravity of the case. Upon digging deeper, officers found that the suspect's description matched that of the perpetrator in an earlier incident near Fourth Street and Tamalpais Avenue, a thread officers are pursuing with intent.
The accused, whose concealed firearm posed a silent threat to the community, was booked into Marin County Jail on several charges. He faces a litany of accusations, including felony possession of a gun by a convicted felon, possession of a concealed firearm, battery on a peace officer, and additional charges relevant to threatening an officer and violating probation.
