
In Providence, Rhode Island, a 5-year-old girl named Naomi Thomas was found deceased after she was reported missing yesterday evening. Naomi was last seen around 11:15 p.m., moving away from her family's residence according to WHDH.
Following her disappearance, the local authorities conducted a search operation around Babcock Street and the surrounding area. During the early hours on Thursday, Naomi's remains were located near the swan boats in Roger Williams Park around 4:30 a.m. as reported by WPRI. She was transported to a local hospital, where her death was officially pronounced.
Naomi has been reported to be nonverbal and potentially someone on the autism spectrum according to the police. The circumstances that led to her being in the park remain a mystery. Relatives shared their emotional responses, with a cousin, James Shelton, stating, 'We're all confused right now'.
The Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) has confirmed to WPRI their reception of the incident report and is looking into the matter. They assure the public that they held no previous records associated with the family. The Providence police are actively investigating Naomi's disappearance and death.
