Earlier today, David A. Frates, a 44-year-old male, was sentenced to serve 110 months in prison for a bank robbery he committed in July 2021 at a Bristol County Savings Bank branch located in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, reports the U.S. Department of Justice.

Frates' history of criminal activities has heavily influenced his present conviction. His previous conviction came in 2015 for the armed robbery of a St. Anne's Credit Union branch situated in New Bedford. For this crime, he was initially sentenced to 11 years in prison, but his sentence was shortly later reduced to 81 months, following changes in the United States Sentencing Guidelines, according to the Justice Department. However, during his subsequent period of supervised release, Frates returned to his criminal ways, leading to the recent bank robbery.

In May 2020, Frates's original sentence was reduced. He then stole over $9,000 from a Bristol County Savings Bank branch in Dartmouth, after demanding $20,000 from a bank teller. The stolen cash was recovered from him during his arrest made on July 21, 2021, states the DOJ announcement.

In light of the new crime, U.S. District Court Judge Richard G. Stearns mandated 77 months of prison time to Frates, including three years of supervised release and a restitution of $20,000 to the Bristol County Savings Bank. Furthermore, for committing the crime while on supervised release for a previous conviction, Frates was sentenced to an additional 33 months in prison, which is to be served consecutively to the 77 months, making his total sentence 110 months, as per the announcement.
