In a tragic turn of events on Genesee Avenue, an 18-year-old skateboarder's ride took a dire turn when he was struck by a car after reportedly running a red light. The San Diego Police Department has released details on the harrowing incident, which occurred on the evening of November 28, leaving the teen with life-threatening injuries.
The SDPD Watch Commander's report vividly describes how the young man, cruising eastbound along Osler St, collided with a Chrysler Pacifica as he attempted to cross the busy intersection against a red light. The driver of the Pacifica, a 45-year-old male, had legally entered the intersection on a green light, only to impact the skateboarder with such force that it sent the youth spiraling into another vehicle, this one stationary, awaiting the change of a red turn arrow.
The skateboarder suffered severe injuries from the collision, details the police log, including "a significant skull fracture and brain bleed" and, in a gut-wrenching turn, "is not expected to survive." The driver of the Chrysler and the Nissan Altima were left unscathed but likely shaken by the tragic sequence of events.
Traffic Division officers have since been diligently combing the scene, endeavoring to thoroughly understand the accident's complex dynamics.
