On November 1, Attorney General Kwame Raoul's office reported that Sergio Ibarra (64), of suburban Cook County, pled guilty to the delivery of more than 900 grams of methamphetamine. Ibarra has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Ibarra, under state law, is required to serve at least 75% of his sentence, as per DuPage County Circuit Court Judge Mike Reidy. The charges were originally filed in July 2021, following Ibarra's alleged methamphetamine delivery to an undercover Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agent, per Raoul's office.
HSI played a significant role in this case, with an undercover agent spearheading the successful methamphetamine sting operation. HSI Chicago Special Agent in Charge, Sean Fitzgerald, warned, "This sentence should serve as a warning to others who would seek to poison our communities," as stated in the announcement.
Assistant Attorney General Gregg Gansmann, a representative from Raoul's Statewide Grand Jury Bureau, effected impactful prosecution in Ibarra's conviction.
