As the occupants of an Oakland Street home set out to prepare their holiday feast, they were greeted not by the scent of roasting turkey but by the alarming sign of smoke and flames emanating from their oven as they went to preheat it around 10:45 a.m. according to a report obtained by WWLP.
The quick-thinking residents immediately shut down the offending appliance and dialed up the Greenfield Fire Department for help, but not before the situation heated up in a most unexpected fashion, with firefighters arriving to dismantle the oven and douse the fiery feast of kibble; meanwhile, the resident’s actual meal luckily evaded disaster as, with the benevolence of neighbors, it was salvaged and cooked in an alternate kitchen space.
