Thanksgiving week brought an unexpected twist for a San Diego family when 37-year-old Amy D'Angelo vanished without a trace after she left for a nighttime swim at Ocean Beach's Dog Beach. Her disappearance has sparked a frenzied search, with locals and law enforcement combing the beach in hopes of uncovering any signs of her whereabouts.

D'Angelo, a mother of three and former personal trainer, embarked on what was to be a regular pastime, heading to the beach with her faithful black healer mix, Charlie, the night before Thanksgiving. According to ABC 10News, D'Angelo's mother, Becky Obayashi, said her daughter texted her about going swimming. When morning broke, the dog and D'Angelo's sweatpants were found by police on the shore, and the owner was nowhere to be seen.

Charlie, having returned to Obayashi's home, now waits, seemingly aware of the absence of his owner. "She's been swimming at night at the beach with her dog Charlie for quite a while," Obayashi told ABC 10News. "We're of course devastated, especially the uncertainty."

While a close friend managed to track D'Angelo's iPhone to Dog Beach, the device itself remains unfound, only ringing through to a hollow voicemail. Undeterred, Obayashi hopes for a sliver of recognition, given her daughter's distinctive tattoos and newly-dyed blonde hair. "If anyone saw a person like that, you know that they would remember those tattoos," Obayashi maintains via ABC 10News.

Anyone with possible leads or information is urged to come forward as the search for Amy D'Angelo continues.
