In a somber incident unfolding on Thanksgiving eve, the streets of Concord witnessed a tragic hit-and-run that claimed the life of an 86-year-old man. The pursuit of justice has resulted in charges against 19-year-old Damian Lopez-Avelino, including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing serious bodily injury, according to a Facebook post by the Concord Police Department.
The incident occurred around 6:49 p.m. at the intersection of Oak Grove Road and Treat Blvd, leading to a second, fatal accident near Ryan Road, per Hooldine.
Amid the chaos, a witness swiftly rushed the injured passenger to John Muir Hospital, but sadly, he succumbed to his injuries—a celebration turned to sorrow. The suspect, facing additional charges of hit-and-run and unauthorized driving, is currently detained without bail at the Martinez Detention Facility.
