Texas Braces for Thunderous Twisters & Stormy ShindigSource: X / NWS Austin/San Antonio

The forecast for the Lone Star State this Thursday is looking downright gnarly, with the National Weather Service predicting "an active day" with a cocktail of scattered showers, rogue thunderstorms, and a chance of tornadoes tearing a line through Central Texas.

A statement obtained by Statesman says we're dealing with "a risk for a few, short-lived tornadoes" that might just dance their way near the East of the I-35 and I-37 corridors. And for those betting folks, place your wagers on the U.S. 77 corridor—that's where the greatest risk is forecast to show its menacing face.

The lads and lasses in Lee and Fayette counties are bracing for the brunt of the storms, hitting a level 2 out of 5 on the storm severity scale. They're staring down the barrel of a 5-9% chance of twisters. Meanwhile, Travis, Williamson, and Hays counties have a "marginal risk" label slapped on 'em, with a lighter but still looming 2-5% tornado threat, according to Spectrum News.

These storms are set to hit their peak between the bright and early hours of 8 a.m. and continue their chaos up until 2:00 p.m. Thursday. Texans are advised to keep their peepers peeled for weather updates all the way through Friday, Spectrum News reports. And in case any Texans thought they could start their December festivities early, the weather response seems to be a resounding, "Think again, partner!"

According to Spectrum News, the big bad wolf here is instability. They've got their eyes on this as the forecast continues to evolve, so everyone's expected to stay weather-aware over the next 24 to 36 hours. Just when you think it's all said and done, the forecast promises brisker and drier conditions come Friday.
