Austin is finally getting its own Uniqlo, with a nearly 18,000-square-foot outpost under construction at Barton Creek Square in southwest Austin. State project records say the buildout is expected to wrap in September 2026, giving local shoppers their first in-town brick-and-mortar shot at the Japanese retailer as it continues its U.S. growth push.
State Filing Spells Out Size, Timeline, and Cost
According to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing, Uniqlo is moving into Barton Creek Square in Space #LO1E with a 17,953-square-foot tenant improvement project. The work is slated to start Feb. 23, 2025, with an estimated completion date of Sept. 4, 2026, and a construction tab of about $2.4 million.
The state record lists a full interior buildout, including demolition, new non-structural walls, finishes, fixtures, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical work, plus a new storefront.
Uniqlo’s U.S. Push Finally Reaches Austin
Austin’s Barton Creek Square appears on Uniqlo’s 2026 U.S. store openings list, which includes first-time entries into both Miami and Austin as part of a wider expansion, per a UNIQLO announcement. The company says exact opening dates will come later, and that select new stores will feature perks such as RFID-enabled self-checkout, alteration services, and RE.UNIQLO donation bins.
Where It Lands Inside Barton Creek Square
Community Impact first flagged the project and the state filing, which puts the address at 2901 S. Capital of Texas Hwy. The mall is owned and managed by Simon Property Group, which has refreshed the interior and added amenities in recent renovations.
What Happens Next
The Sept. 4, 2026, completion date in the TDLR record offers a rough timeline for when the space should be ready, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing. Uniqlo, however, has not yet put a firm grand-opening date on the calendar. The company says official schedules will be posted on its store openings page at UNIQLO.
In the meantime, shoppers can keep an eye out for mall signage and local coverage as the tenant buildout nears completion and the new store gears up to open later this year.
